Chrysalis London Presents… CANDY
Landing in London, Bracknell and Birmingham this June, Chrysalis London promises explosive drama, electric atmosphere and high impact performance with a brand new 5 part spectacular: CANDY.
CANDY explores the unprecedented socio-political landscape of a nation balanced on the knife edge. From rising to the top of the ivory tower to rose-tinted recollections of a country “before”, each piece offers a unique perspective on a volatile and fragile system. CANDY delves deep into the psyche of a fractured nation and demands unfiltered reactions from its raw, unbridled material.
Exhilarating audiences with 5 works that feature 14 extraordinary dancers, CANDY premieres on 19th June at the Wilde Stage, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell. From there, Chrysalis will blaze a trail to the theatre at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham on the 21st June, followed 2 nights at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, London, on 28th and 29th June.
This magnificent mixed bill exudes the company’s innovative signature style, with exciting new works by Jodie Blemings and Associate Choreographer Iona Brie plus a highly anticipated collaboration with world-renowned choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy MBE (Boy Blue Entertainment). CANDY is comprised of the following new works: All Fur Coat and No Knickers, Haki Sak, East Side and Lemon Quash, with distinguished piece Polluted Purity also returning to the stage.
In addition to these 5 powerful works, Chrysalis London have also collaborated with young local dancers to open the show at South Hill Park and the Midlands Arts Centre, with a piece specially choreographed by Blemings. Working with the Berkshire County Dance Company Youth in Bracknell and the Timmins Academy of Dance in Birmingham, these collaborations are a testament to Chrysalis London’s dedication to shaping the next generation of exciting contemporary dancers, creating an opportunity for them work with a dance company and perform on the professional stage.
Special guests will open the show at the Bernie Grant Arts Centre in London performing work choreographed by Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy ahead of Chrysalis taking to the stage.
